How long does it take?
Richard tries to keep the labour of the sitter to a minimum, and hopes to gather all the information needed in a few hours. This eliminates the need for repeat visits where long distances are involved. The clay head is then carved and modelled over a period of around 2 weeks. When complete, it is confirmed with the client, and transported to the foundry. The foundry process is very time consuming and can take 2-3 months to complete.

How much does it cost?
Fees are a combination of variable costs depending on the size and complexity of the commission. They are made up of the artist’s fee for creating the head, two or three return visits to the foundry, the manufacture of a complex silicone mould, all stages of the lost wax process and foundry work, including the casting, patination and mounting, also, VAT and gallery commission where applicable. Accurate quotes can only be given after consultation with the client, the foundry, and whether travel costs are involved, but prices start at £1950.
